Contour lines and compass skills
This map reading and navigation course is practical so you’ll be out with a map and compass in hand for a full 2 days. Heading out into the Black Mountains, we’ll develop your compass skills to get away from paths and tracks. The open moorland environment also makes an ideal training ground for developing your understanding of contour lines. We aim to take you off the beaten track. After the course you’ll be navigating by the shape of the land instead.
The National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) accredits this course, so on successful completion of the course you’ll earn the NNAS Silver certificate.
We believe in quality training, that’s why we use qualified and experienced Mountain Leaders to deliver our courses.
** If you feel you need to brush up on your skills prior to the course we suggest you buy the book ‘Map and Compass’ by Pete Hawkins whish is a great comprehensive guide to navigation **
